Help with alternatives to getting to sf

Help with alternatives to getting to sf

Hello, I heard of your organization today, as people in our offices were discussing the possible BART strike later this week (or in a few months if there is a cooling off period).

I am not familiar with the services you provide, so I thought I would leave a message and see you can help me learn if there are any alternatives for getting into SF from the Concord, Pleasant Hill, and Walnut Creek area. Also, what might commuters expect if BART workers do go out other than chaos.

Park Blvd Hampel Tickets

Dear Sir/Madam:

I'm e-mailing you to inform you that AC Transit sent a local sheriff this morning to give out tickets to anyone who was picking up carpoolers at the bus stop/casual carpool location on Park Blvd. and Hampel.

Apparently, the officer said that they had been receiving complaints from AC Transit bus drivers and the local neighbors for cars blocking the street. The officer was giving out parking tickets instead of moving violations. The ticket was priced at $250 but he was telling our driver to fight the ticket. The official violation was parking in a red zone/bus stop (not sure since I didn't read the ticket).

The officer was very cooperative and understood our situation but he said he was giving out tickets to that location and the Park Blvd. and Hollywood location up the street.

It would be a BIG inconvenience for a lot of local carpoolers if there is no designated Park Blvd carpool pickup location.

Our driver who got the ticket suggested the church parking lot on Hampel that is empty on the weekdays might suffice as a pickup stop.

I don't know how we can resolve this matter.

Please let me know what we should do. Thank you for your time.

I recently learned that carpool drivers are being threatened with $250 tickets for pulling up at the designated pick-up spot. Clearly something must be done--is it possible to move the pick-up spot to the church parking lot down the street? Or are there other possible solutions?

I can't believe the sanest institution going is being challenged like this. You probably already know that, due to complaints from AC Transit, and possibly neighborhood folks, drivers are now being threatened with $250 tickets for pulling up at the designated pick-up spot.

Is it possible to move the pick-up spot to the church parking lot down the street? Or are there other possible solutions?

sfride.com - Update - New Location?

Last month a survey was sent out to sfride.com's notification network (approx. 75). The responses pointed towards a new location...

Watch soon for sfride.com's updated website with pictures of a newly proposed location on Treat and Jones Road. Post you comments (date, location, etc.) about this new location in this blog.

As for the old location, is anybody still using it? Any successful carpools? As founder of sfride.com, I was involved with 3 successful casual carpools before I changed jobs to Pleasanton October week 2. Since I am no longer commuting to SF, I wish y'all good luck with continuing the Pleasant Hill BART Casual Carpool.

Successful Carpools Begin at Pleasant Hill BART

The staff at sfride.com is aware of a few carpools that occurred on the official launch day of the new location. It is officially started!!

Drivers keep waiting; and riders don't give up.

Remember to bring signs and keep some fliers in your car. Some have even taped a 'SF Casual Carpool' sign in their window. Signs and fliers can be downloaded at www.sfride.com.

Pleasant Hill went live on August 2, 2004! During August, the hours of operation are limited: between 7-8 am.

Very few successful carpools have taken place so far, but school is back in session and Sept. 1st is right around the corner...

Starting Wednesday, September 1, 2004, hours will expand to: 6-9 am.
  1. keep telling people (pass out fliers, hold up sf casual carpool signs)
  2. be a driver if you can (if you wait and no one comes, drive on to Lafayette, Orinda, or Rockridge, no risk)
  3. riders: print off a sf casual carpool sign (don't give up, if no cars show up take BART and try again with a friend

If you have any questions, feel free to send an email to sfride@sfride.com.

Email #5 - September 1st, 2004 6-9 am

The staff continues to receive emails of intersted carpoolers and there seems to be about 1-2 successful carpools form PH BART location (At Shell @ Treat/N. Main) each week. A staff member continues to hand out fliers before and after work at the PH BART station.

The nice thing about trying to start a location in a convenient location is that BART is a great nearby backup if no cars show. The staff at sfride.com continues to muster up committed drivers and riders to agree to show up on the first full day (9/1 between 6-9am).

Please send an email to sfride@sfride.com (tell your friends too) to be a counted rider or driver to help start the PH BART Casual Carpool location (At Shell @ Treat/N. Main) .

Thanks for showing your interest

Fliers at Pleasant Hill BART

Handed out another 25 fliers at Pleasant Hill BART.

Received about 3 more emails from interested commuters. Lots of positive words of encouragement, but very little show of commitment.

The staff at sfride.com will continue our efforts with communication. Please help spread the word.

Hours of operation to go into full effect (i.e. 6-9 am) starting Wednesday September 1st, 2004.
